THE REPUBLIC OF SCAMS

Raj Shekhar Jha

From Haridas Mundhra to commonwealth games to Adarsh Society, it’s scam all the way. Memories of the ‘Big Bull’ Harshad Mehta, who ballooned the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1992 and Ketan Parekh are still fresh in our minds. So are the fake stamps of Abdul Karim Telgi in 2000.

From UTI to Satyam and from Bofors to Fodder to Madhu Koda laundering, the relay race kept the spectators enthralled. Suresh Kalmadi could hold two Commonwealth Games with the money he siphoned off. Adarsh could be turned into a monumental Tower of Scams like Eiffel Tower of Paris or the Great Wall of Chin in Beijing. But the Radis tapes and the 2G Scam have the dramatic element that all other scams lack.
